We are moving on to science theory which many adults don't understand.
People who run the country say that pupils like you should learn science theory to prepare you for a scientific world.
Thinking about mass includes knowing about gravity, weight, force
- The weight of the item varies in different places.
- For example, objects weigh less on the moon where gravity is lower compared to the earth. See "People ask" here.
- Mass is the amount of matter more later present in a body while weight is a measure of how strongly gravity pulls on that matter.
- Mass is the same wherever the item might be.
- The moon has a surface gravity more later of around 1.62 meters per second squared, more later In comparison, the Earth has a surface gravity of about 9.8 meters per second squared. . Since the moon's surface gravity is one-sixth of Earth's, this is why astronauts' movements appear bouncier. source.
- This means that, ignoring the effects of air resistance, the speed of an object falling freely will increase by about 9.8 metres (32 ft) per second every second. source
- Weight is a force. The weight of an object is its mass times the moving due to gravity.
- A force is an influence that can cause an object to increase its speed, i.e. accelerate, meaning a change in speed or direction.
